Maybe they don’t want you as a member as they only ever liked members in the past who just paid over there money but never spoke out or had opinions them selves. That included never being told what was going on in the back ground. Phrase that springs to mind is it’s in hand. So you could be right T.C or they could be hoping the last 15 members drop out so they can donate whets left of the funds to charity.

Funny how the admin hasn’t done an “are these taxi drivers?” shown his Hack driver mates from the sites gallery who dont have their badges around their necks/ on their person as per council rules! its all about the selective enforcement

Yes Mr Lighthouse keeper concerning the issue of the hackney plates in Blyth Valley this is true. Top man. Here’s what happened and I would be interested in your thoughts regarding this. We have a system in Blyth where you have a dual badge for Taxi/Private hire. The council wrote to every driver in the Blyth Valley telling them they could make an application for a W Plate. There were 4 available and your name would be put into a hat and then 4 drawn out in the presence of other taxi drivers/operators. To this day I know every driver by site at least and have never came across anyone yet that was asked to witness this? One of the conditions to issue these plates, was you had so many weeks (I cannot remember how many) to produce a brand new purpose built disabled vehicle (no Doblos permitted). Guess what? The biggest taxi company in my area is also a finance company/mortgage company all 4 plates went to his drivers who he gave finance to for new vehicles to put these plates on. Here is the bomb shell. The minute the plates went on to these vehicles and paperwork exchanged hands with the council they then became the owners property. He then gave each man a £1000 which covered the deposits for the vehicles so technically he payed £1000 to buy each plate. It also emerged that lots of drivers had not even been contacted by the council and did not even know they could apply. The council on the 2nd year were supposed to give out another 4 and failed to do so. The most annoying part in all of this before all these plates were issued the council was advised by drivers and operators that this would happen and we were ingnored. All these plates went to the big companies drivers and the little operators did not even get a look in. Believe me I could go on all day about our council.

As far as i have always been told by Newcastle council,it is the norm for a council to let the hack/ph carry on business as long as he has the receipt to prove that eithier the plate or drivers licence is paid for!
This is the way Newcastle operate anyway?

@JIMMY FROM BLYTH

I WRITE BELOW THE EXACT EXTRACTION FROM THE ACT OF PARLIMENT, (WORD FOR WORD) PROVING BLYTH VALLEY COUNCIL ARE BREAKING THE ACT OF PARLIAMENT BY TELLING A HACKNEY CARRIAGE PROPRIETOR/DRIVER TO OPERATE WITHOUT SUPPLYING THE CORRECT PLATE TO DISPLAY ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE THAT MUST BE DISPLAYED AT ALL TIMES ONCE LICENSED BY COUNCIL TO BE “LET ON HIRE” IN ANY SITUATION!!!!

(NORTHUMBRIA POLICE MUST PROSECUTE BLYTH VALLY COUNCIL LICENSING DEPARTMENT INSTEAD OF PROPRIETOR IMMEDIATELY, AS THEY ARE TELLING DRIVERS TO BREAK THE LAW AND THE DRIVER HAS A LETTER TO PROVE THEY ARE NOT GUILTY, IF THIS IS THE COUNCIL POLICY ACCORDING TO JIMMY FROM BLYTH)

Town Police Clauses Act 1847

NUMBER OF PERSONS TO BE CARRIED IN A HACKNEY CARRIAGE TO BE PAINTED THEREON.
Section 51 states:
No hackney carriage shall be used or employed or let on hire, or shall stand or ply for hire, within the prescribed distance, unless the number of persons to be carried by such hackney carriage, in words at lenght, and in form following,(that is to say)
“To carry persons”.
be painted on a plate placed on some conspicuous place on the outside of such hackney carriage, and in legible letters, so as to be clearly distinguishable from the colour of the ground whereon the same are painted, one inch in lenght, and of a proportionate breadth; and the driver of such hackney carriage shall not be required to carry in or by such hackney carriage a greater number of persons than the number painted thereon.

PENALTY FOR NEGLECT TO EXHIBIT THE NUMBER, OR FOR REFUSAL TO CARRY THE PRESCRIBED NUMBER
Section 52 states:
If the proprietor of any hackney carriage permits the same to be used, employed, or let to hire, or if any person stand or ply for hire with such carriage, without having the number of persons to be carried thereby painted and exhibited in a manner aforesaid, or if the driver of any such hackney carriage refuse, when required by the hirer thereof, to carry in or by such hackney carriage the number of persons painted thereon, or any less number, every proprietor or driver so offending shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding [level 1 on the standard scale].

SECTION 51 AND 52 PROVES A PIECE OF PAPER FOR THE DRIVER TO CARRY WITH THEM INSIDE THE VEHICLE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH ACCORDING TO THE TOWN POLICE CLAUSES ACT 1847, AS THE PLATE MUST BE FITTED AND DISPLAYED AT ALL TIMES FROM THE MINUTE THE HACKNEY CARRIAGE BECOMES A LICENSED VEHICLE TO BE ABLE TO WORK!!!

BLYTH VALLEY COUNCIL JUST LIKE BERWICK-UPON-TWEED IS PART OF THAT WONDERFUL NEW UNITARY NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY COUNCIL, SO ARE WE SO SUPRISED BY JIMMY`S POSTING ?

TAKE CARE ALL!

Regarding the Blyth Hackney Carriage, strange as it maybe Blyth Valley Council has a policy for an unknown reason of issueing you with a document that must be kept in your vehicle to produce to the police if need be while your plate is being made. Blyth Valley Council send your details away for a private company to make your plate. You can wait anything from 3 weeks to whenever. It is not unusual to wait several months for a plate believe it or not. In reference to this vehicle it works for Union Taxis phone no. 01670 540340 who will verify it is genuine or Blyth Taxis Licensing 01670 542218. I hope someone takes the time to contact the above people because it does seem a very odd practice to me as the police have complained for years regarding this matter and since people have seen fit to post this chaps registration on this site of a driver who has driven for many years with no consideration to the drivers well being as anyone could read this and basically make a be line for him when he is outside of Blyth in my opinion is apalling. It just goes to show this constant obsession that people have on this site about other taxis everytime they are seen outside their area. They must be flimping or stealing your work. If you have ever had the pleasure of working in Blyth you will know you do not need to leave Blyth to go flimping in Tyneside. That just would not be logical. Moral of the story professional taxi drivers must stick together and we must get our facts right at all times before we acuse anyone.

Steve January 8, 2009 at 7:20 pm

Anyone can put a top sign on his/her car,so long as whatever is on that sign is not offensive, the sign can read what it likes….thats the theory, BUT…..if the roof sign advertises the fact that the vehicle is a `taxi` or whatever, then I have always understood that the vehicle owner must have a `license`,if required to operate as such.
Therefore,if the vehicle is advertising the fact it is a `taxi`,but no `plate` or license is held, then that is illegal.
Come on Mr Plod…you have already successfully proscecuted 1 operator in the Dudley area for not displaying the required plate on the vehicle,so why not `DO` a few more.
There are plenty to choose from….even 1 plate I saw tonight, tuesday 6th Jan 2009,in Percy St,looked a bit sus…lying on the back shelf.
I may be wrong…couldnt get close enough to tell, but looked a much brighter red than most `Derwentside` plates…on a dark coloured passat,no door stickers, but roof sign.
