A well know ex NT Hack,who sold up and went for a Berwick plate,was caught Flimping last summer bang to rights at the back of the Hack Rank in whitley Bay by two enforcement officers. After a few months,whilst he continued his flimping activity,he eventually appeared in court and was fined £500 but still kept his Berwick badge and continued to work.
After the High court case Re: The Berwick situation, This driver decided to come back to the fold and apply for a NT badge and somebody at the Council finally got some Bottle and he was promptly refused and I’m told he cannot do school runs for NT anymore to boot.
I know this guy personally and regard him as a friend,anybody who knows him would say “He’s a canny kid” but why should he be allowed to, Basically,Take the piss. Now what he needs to do is get a hold of one of them flyers; that will coach him on proving hardship and Berwick will renew his licence. So, is the problem solved? No! It just means he has to be less Blatant about Flimping! The Berwick thing is not going away and as always when things prove to be a doddle to get around people will get more Blase (pronounced: Blah Zey) and actually the situation will probably end up being worse than it was before.

Well done to NT Council in their action to refuse a license,pity they cant be relied on to contine in that vein.
Incidentally,to this guys friend i say this,so your mate is a canny lad is he,so i assume you would`t be bothered had it been your family in his car,having been `illegally` picked up 1 night,when he is involved in an accident,leaving maybe your wife crippled and you find out HE had no insurance,as he was `plying for hire` in Whitley Bay which is more than 5 miles from Berwick town hall,which is HIS working area,as defined by law.
Since HE picked up in Whitley,without being booked,his car is not licensed,insured and possibly i would argue not tested by the LA,and therefore should not have been on the road.
This sort of `clown`,I have no time for and should be put off the road altogether. After all,it always used to be ILLEGAL to drive a motor vehicle on the road without insurance…possibly a BAN from driving at all.
You are correct,the `out of area` business wont go away,since 2 operators showed all the `clowns` how to get around the law,and now everyone jumps on the bandwagon. The only way this will get sorted now is when some innocent person,gets into a car that looks like a taxi,`BUT IS NOT a TAXI` and is either assaulted,or severely injured,when the authorities that should be making sure the punter is safe,actually do THEIR job,instead of `pissing around`.
Don`t believe me….look at the mess we have in `social services` up and down the country,kids starved to death while the LA does nothing.
It will happen….just hope its not YOUR family it happens to.
Personally,I would throw the book at these `clowns`,if not the whole bloody library,why should legitimately licensed hack and P/H drivers have their living destroyed just so some `arsehole` can do what he wants. Actually,thats an insult to an `arsehole`,that has a usefull purpose in life,and doesnt endanger anyone else in the process. (unless its owner had sprouts,or curry..etc the night before).

RE: Flimping!
Last night I had a “No Job” in Town, so I headed for home (North Tynside), I was at the Traffic Lights at the top of the Bigg Market, far back as Jessops, a large Gang of revellers charged towards my Car and a NT Hack in front, we refused, despite them wanting to go to Wylam and beyond!, they approached two PH sitting outside of Yummies and both the Cars just picked them up without a glance, BLT????…..NO!, one was a “Be sure, be safe BOOK Ace!, and the other “Don’t be let down, call…… .
You see NC based PH’s and Berwick are no Angels.

With reference to Article: Berwick Flimper refused NT Badge
It’s nice to see NT Council do something right, however the “Corriders of Power” at Harvey bloody Combe did’nt reject the applicants that have recently jumped from the Berwick Boat!, at least 4/5 former Bandits that I know or know of now have NT Badges, these lot were some of the biggest Flimpers at the Coast, non of them worked at Central or BLT either!
The Berwick/Northumberland issue is with us for good now, it will be harder to determine a idiot or honest Driver, it is frightening that these Bandits will be our neighbours shortly, so just down from Earsden, or just past the Caravan Park they will be legal!!!
