Stick Together!

The following was a comment from John Dodds and in my view never a truer word was spoken.

Unfortunately, this issue as with many others,I agree with Ian Shanks.
The `hacks` in Newcastle have never,(with 1 exception)stuck together,we always find some excuse why we cant back each other up,and on this current issue of `in town parking`,yet again we are as divided as we can get, with many taking the attitude that its the `owners` problem, not the `drivers`.
Well lads and lasses,I hate to agree with Ian Shanks, but he is right,we missed the best time to object and now we face an uphill fight.
So to all I will say this,if you really think its an `owners` problem, how WRONG CAN YOU BLOODY GET!
It`s OUR problem, everyone of us,as any ticket that is issued,is the responsibility of the driver of the vehicle at the time it was issued,so THINK,whats going to happen to YOUR takings on a friday and saturday night…..if you want to donate all your takings to someone,I would suggest the RNLI,we would put them to much better use than Newcastle city council ever will….I`ll guarantee that.
If anyone is bothered, and wants their job,or values their plate,at all, then get YOUR arses along to the meeting in the Labour club on the 17th ,next tuesday night and see if we can try and sort this mess out.
If YOU dont fight this, don`t expect anyone else to fight it for you!

John Dodds.

Admin: I can remember when the lads did stick together but these days it seems to be every man for himself. Everyone wants someone else to do the the work of fighting for their rights. Instead of coming together as a body and saying ” This aint right ” drivers would rather sit back and let someone else do it for them.Well you have to do your bit. Councils will sit back and do nothing if they have the slightest idea that the trade as a whole is apathetic. You have to show that this is something that every single driver is upset about and the only way to do this is to STICK TOGETHER! Join your associations, put forward your complaints and fight for your livelyhood.

@john dodds.

they could not write to everyone as that would mean every member of public and business that it may affect. So you had to reply to the general publicised letter which all newcastle taxi drivers should have at least done !

and with the argument in mass that they themselves have aloccated plates without adequate ranks i would have liked them to openly answer that question what they expect you to do while trying to conduct your job without fear of parking fines

@ian shanks, I remember your post on the subject Ian,I wasn`t critisising you personally for raising the objection, although I was wondering if you were doing it on behalf of the general trade,or more for you own benefit, considering the number of your cars that would probably get tickets.
However, that aside,if I remember your objections got thrown out didnt they. Not knowing exactly what they were, and being a suspicious and at time cinical bastard, leads me to think that that meeting was held just to appease you and other objectors, the council already having made their dicision.
I`d love to be wrong,BUT considering the `plates` meeting back in May,when we all got written invites to attend, why was this not done for this meeting too. I didn`t get any invite, nor did anyone I spoke to about it….did you ….

@eagle-eye, Lets just hope the lads at the central station get behind the lads on the the streets this time & turn up at this meeting as the impression im getting so far is that the new parking restrictions will not effect them & they will be exempt & aloud to park on the double yellow lines in the subway that runs to the back of the central station. How wrong they are & all we need is more cars on the streets fighting for what little work there is.So I urge you to turn up at this meeting. Its no good letting others do your fighting for you.

@ian shanks, The following posts recieved very few views and ZERO comments:
ADVISORY PANEL HEARING RE PROPOSED TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER: posted Dec.2nd 08
Proposed City Centre Controlled Parking Zone: posted Dec 5th 08
This one, posted Dec 11th 08 got very few views and 8 comments, mainly from the PH trade: ADVISORY PANEL HEARING RE PROPOSED TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER (PROPOSED CITY CENTRE CONTROLLED PARKING ZONE)
I have to say that the apathy shown by the majority of the Hackney Carriage trade saddens me. I know the HC trade feels strongly about most of the items printed here but it seems any kind of action is left to one or two Hack drivers whilst the majority sit back and bury their heads in the sand!
I even added the following in an effort to get drivers to respond: Let’s hear your comments on this or would you rather sit back and do nothing and adjust your budget to include several parking fines in each financial year, are parking fines Tax deductable?

Admin

if you can remember i posted the meeting details on your site and both you and i were amazed it got little or not attention for your member of this site ????

i did also if i remember correctly be criticised because of my intention to object to the parking restrictions in the interest of the whole trade not just my drivers

Well the problem is handed over to the lads on this web site that say a lot but do very little when the chips are down.
