North Tyneside Council is to widen the pavement at the bottom of South parade in Whitley Bay in order to install a second railing at the Taxi Rank situated there. This has been requested by Police who are concerned about public disorder at this location. The changes will incorporate a railing/barrier in order to create a fairer queing system. It is hoped disruption during these works, which will take approximately two weeks, will be kept to a minimum.A Council spokesman said “We intend to have the work completed before the Easter Bank holiday and would ask that Taxi drivers be patient during these works. We would also ask that Taxi drivers would rank up sensibly and try to avoid any congestion on South Parade whilst work is ongoing”
