A KNIFE-WIELDING fare dodger threatened to stab a taxi driver through the neck before running from his cab.

Christopher Ord had planned to flee without paying from the moment he flagged down Sadeer Ahmed in Wallsend at 2.30am.

The 18-year-old told Mr Ahmed to take him to Prudhoe and even pretended to use the helpful cabbie’s mobile to text ahead making sure cash would be waiting at the end of the 30-minute trip.

Ord instead pulled a lock knife he had hidden between his legs, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

And as he held the 4in blade to Mr Ahmed’s throat, he warned: “Let me out or I’ll put this through your neck.”

Sending the teenager to a young offender institution for six months, Judge John Evans warned: “What you did that night causes the public great concern.

“It must have been an extremely frightening experience for the victim.”

Ord, of Long Gair, Winlaton, Gateshead, admitted possessing the knife and making off without paying the pounds 37 fare.

His barrister Brian Mark told the court the teenager was “exceptionally vulnerable” and that the offence on February 15 had been completely out of character.

“He behaved in this way in a moment of madness,” Mr Mark said.
