Two sides to a Fence, but how many Fences
Just because something is proposed in an eloquent manner, does not mean that it is undoubtedly correct.
Those that comment here in the best English that they can, and live daily with the frustrations that this trade inflicts on them, may sometimes seem antagonistic and abusive but the site is here to allow people to get things off their chest in a way they never would be able to do in a face to face way.

Letter to Newcastle Licensing from NHF
The Newcastle Hackney Forum has written to both Newcastle Taxi Licensing and Michael Craik, Chief Constable for Northumbria Police about the bad press being received by the Newcastle Taxi trade recently………..Who Guards The Guards?
The following is an excerpt from a comment posted on this site by Alan Fidler………………The real issue is that we are ‘policed’, in many instances, by frustrated policemen/women who have only a vague understanding of the LAWS they purport to enforce…………….
Northumberland Taxi Consultation
This Berwick thing just won’t go away. We have had a Court case, Council meetings, meetings between neighbouring Councils, meetings between Licensing officers from neighbouring Councils, countless meetings and newspaper articles, protests from the Taxi trade in Newcastle and yet some 9 months after the Judgement by Mr. Christopher Symons Q.C. we are still in the same position.Berwick plated cars are still running around as Taxis on Tyneside and elsewhere even though Berwick Council no longer exists.
David Wilson. Ex Licensing Officer:Part II
I joined Berwick in June 2004. The first out-of-town hackneys were not licensed until October 2006, so hardly closely linked in time to my arrival. It was, however, very closely linked in time to another council refusing to licence Polish applicants, which was discriminatory and contrary to EU law. It was that fact that resulted in a number of private hire operators visiting every council for miles around, with the result that they then licensed drivers and vehicles with Berwick and Eden Valley councils…………….
David Wilson: Setting The Record Straight
Whilst we all may have our views on David Wilson and the Berwick situation. We should be big enough to listen to him. He has become a figurehead along with Ian Shanks for everything Berwick. Ian has from time to time come on this site and explained his reasons for using Berwick plated cars and now this site affords David Wilson the same courtesy. Some will no doubt see this as an advert for his services but when people comment here about the man we have to let him reply…………Scarborough Taxi Enforcement

Revive Town Centres Say British Retail Consortium
Taxi Drivers saw and felt the demise of town centres some time ago but it seems it takes a full blown recession before anyone decides to acknowledge the problem. Now the British Retail Consortium has published a report………Where is Taxi Enforcement?
Concerning ranks on Collingwood St and Mosley St, I agree the provision of ranks would help the situation, considering the Council licensed both ‘Floritas’ and ‘Perdu’, anyone could be forgiven for thinking that parking for taxis would have been provided. There again, maybe the council in their infinite wisdom didn’t think transport was needed………….

Freeze Taxi fares!?!?
Looking around the Country we, Taxi drivers, are sitting about doing nothing. Longer waiting times between fares & less people going out and using Taxis coupled with the high price of fuel has had a devastating effect on the Taxi trade. Another factor is the Government obsession with de-limitation of Taxis, every city and town across the country is under pressure to issue more and more licences. As more licences are issued then the work gets even thinner, standards drop,…………………..

Firstly, can I just thank the members of the Forum for the work done so
far,and lets hope the apparent good relationship with the `council`
continues………….
Private Sector Cuts – Taxis Increase
British Airways last month asked thousands of its staff to work for free during the summer, and to switch to part time hours. Many car manufacturers have sent workers home on half pay for months at a time………..
