Are black cabs fare game as city’s taxi war accelerates?
UP UNTIL last year, the fractious relationship between the Capital’s (Edinburgh) black cab trade and its private hire firms had gone relatively unnoticed by the public.
But all that changed when the city’s licensing chiefs allowed one of the largest minicab operators to set its own tariffs, potentially undercutting its hackney rivals by up to 30 per cent.

Who says there is not enough work hack driver??? Manchester Private Hire protest over bus lanes
HUNDREDS of private-hire cabs formed a giant convoy in a bid to persuade the council to let them use bus lanes.
Drivers from across Greater Manchester took time out from ferrying fares around to join the protest outside the City of Manchester Stadium.
The cabbies snaked their cabs through the city streets, finishing up at outside the town hall in Albert Square – and causing traffic chaos in the process………………
Where is Taxi Enforcement?
Concerning ranks on Collingwood St and Mosley St, I agree the provision of ranks would help the situation, considering the Council licensed both ‘Floritas’ and ‘Perdu’, anyone could be forgiven for thinking that parking for taxis would have been provided. There again, maybe the council in their infinite wisdom didn’t think transport was needed………….

Council Sting Ruins Drivers Reputation

Freeze Taxi fares!?!?
Looking around the Country we, Taxi drivers, are sitting about doing nothing. Longer waiting times between fares & less people going out and using Taxis coupled with the high price of fuel has had a devastating effect on the Taxi trade. Another factor is the Government obsession with de-limitation of Taxis, every city and town across the country is under pressure to issue more and more licences. As more licences are issued then the work gets even thinner, standards drop,…………………..
Cambridge Taxis Fare increase

Members of Cambridge City Council’s licensing committee agreed to raise the initial pick-up charge for passengers from £2.20 to £2.40.
Plans to increase the distance and time tariffs by 3.4 per cent were scrapped in light of the new levy, while a 40p pick-up charge increase was also rejected
A £3 surcharge for larger taxis carrying between five and eight people was also deferred for consideration next year.
The increased pick-up charge – or “drop price” – is a departure from the council’s previous policy of tracking the percentage increase agreed for London cabs, which was 3.4 per cent this year.
However, councillors estimated the increased pick-up fee was roughly the same as a 3.4 per cent increase on an average taxi ride……..
